Dear Friends,
As we kick off a new year of powerful grassroots organizing, DataCenter
has been working hard to meet the dynamic research needs of the social
justice movement. The following page details the latest developments of
our work, all of which help our partners to document and/or generate the
data crucial to capturing their stories. You will also see our unique
approaches to fully-integrated research, ranging from program impact
assessment to building evidence-based cases for funding support.
Elevating community voices to make social change; that is our mission,
and we hope you enjoy reading about how we do it in collaboration with
you, our partner organizations and allies.
In community,
DataCenter

Other DataCenter Highlights
Green Gardeners
The Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur de California has launched
a training program that will train low income workers in low impact
development. The green gardeners learn about soils, water, irrigation and
native plants that need less water and are environmentally sustainable.
DataCenter created and is implementing the evaluation of the training
program. To learn more, read this article
in the Los Angeles Times.
Sustaining Organizing Survey
The Sustaining Organizing Survey was launched in November and in three
months we were able to collect surveys from over 200 organizations throughout
the United States. The findings will help us measure the impact of the
economic crisis on organizing and movement bulding work. Over the next
three months we will analyze the results and launch the findings. It will
be presented in June at the United State Social Forum where we hope to
dialogue about the results and ways in which to move forward to
strengthen our movement. To learn more, visit the SOS blog.
AIWA Youth Program
The AIWA Youth Program is ready to kick off the year with a record
number of motivated and dedicated youth! DataCenter was asked to partner
with them to do background research on a possible campaign issue
impacting immigrant students in the Bay Area public school system. Once
they receive our targeted research findings, they will articulate their
campaign goal, solution proposal, and strategies to improve equitable
access to higher education for all immigrant students for whom English is
a second language! To learn more, visit AIWA's website.
