National
Alliance for Fair Employment Unites Contingent Work Movement
A
new national network of more than 50 workplace and advocacy
groups nationwide originally formed in 1998 to fight unequal
treatment of part-time, temporary and contract workers. Known
as the National Alliance for Fair Employment (NAFFE), the
network unites a broad range of constituencies affected by
problems associated with nonstandard work. NAFFE's action
groups include Temporary Help and Day Labor Work, Law and
Public Policy, Welfare and Workfare, and Campus-Based Organizing.
In addition, NAFFE has two committees focused on Research
and Analysis, and Communications and Media.
The
DataCenter's Economic Justice program plays an integral role
in NAFFE's information strategy. Our bimonthly contingent
labor monitor, a collection of news articles on contingent
work, is distributed to all NAFFE member organizations, keeping
them up-to-date on issues, events and media nationally.
We
trained NAFFE staff to set up and operate a daily electronic
alert service on contingent labor. NAFFE reviews the alerts
and disseminates key documents to members via email, as well
as feeding content to NAFFE's web site.
We
actively participate in several NAFFE action groups, focusing
on welfare, temporary workers, research, and communications
and technology. Through the working groups, we provide campaign
research support and strategy consultations.
In
addition, we provide campaign research support to NAFFE member
organizations.
